Plagarism

When you make reference to another person’s work, whether it is paraphrasing, summarizing, or using a quote, it is necessary to cite the source. This could be through a bibliography/works cited page or through parenthetical citation or a footnote.

Another good reason to cite your sources is to avoid plagiarism.

DEFINITION:
Plagiarism is a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work or taking someone's words or ideas as if they were your own.

Plagiarism encompasses a range of errors and violations. Plagiarism can be charged against writers who incorrectly or neglect to cite borrowed materials.

Intentional or unintentional, plagiarism can result in serious consequences. The punishment for plagiarism can range from failing a course to being expelled from your high school, college or university.
