Writing Numbers

1. Numbers 1-10 write out
   Numbers above 10 use numerals
   
   I want two pieces.
   I need 30 balloons.
2. Numbers beginning a sentence write out
   
   Twenty-three children sung in the choir this morning.
3. Numbers related to each other in a sentence:
   
   • One number is above 10 and one number below 10: write both in numerals
   • Follow above rules for other instances
   
   
   I asked for 8 workers, not 15.
4. Spell out fractions and use hyphens
   
   One-third of the family already arrived.
5. Write decimals with numerals
   Always put a zero in front of a decimal unless the decimal already begins with a zero
   
   The company grew 0.53 in one year.
6. Hyphenate all compound numbers from twenty-one through ninety-nine
   
   Sixty-one dogs were entered in the contest.
